Mental Health and Family Nurse Practitioner

Thomas is a dual-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner. He earned his family nurse practitioner degree locally from Pacific Lutheran University and his psychiatric nurse practitioner degree from the University of New Hampshire. While working in urgent care and local emergency departments, he noticed a pattern of his patients’ physical ailments having a mental health contributing factor at their core. He provides medication management for mental health conditions such as an anxiety, depression, bipolar, ADHD and PTSD.
He works to improve his patients’ mental health through improving their physical health. He focuses on the biopsychosocialspiritual healing by addressing “the five pillars of health:” diet, sleep, exercise, community, and spirituality. He enjoys helping those who are feeling stuck, unseen, forgotten, or defeated to break free from maladaptive coping and live a life in which they thrive, have agency and are fulfilled. In addition to medication management, he offers therapeutic support in the form of cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing.
Thomas sees patients from all backgrounds, but has a particular passion for men’s health, and for those patients with a background of addiction (process-addictions such as sex addiction and substance use issues alike). Thomas partners with his patients to provide an environment where they can authentically express themselves without the fear of judgment or needing to “edit for content”. Many people have experienced poor interactions with medical providers in the past: they were not listened to, time was too short, the provider was judgmental, they were lectured, etc. Thomas provides a different experience, where each individual is an active participant in their care.
