Karen Cooper holds a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University. She has worked in the behavioral health and addictions field since 1988. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Substance Use Disorder Professional, and approved Clinical Supervisor in WA State, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in AK, Certified Sex Addiction Therapist and Supervisor (CSAT-S), Certified Multiple Addictions Therapist (CMAT), Certified Couples Betrayal Therapist candidate (CCBRT-C), Meadows trained therapist and completed Advanced Post-Induction Therapy (PIT training), Early Couples Recovery Model trained (ERCEM), Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy Level 1 (PACT) and Attachement Focused Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing trained clinician(A-EMDRII). Karen also provides professionals with monitoring and therapy, supporting contingency monitoring contracts with Washington Professionals Health Programs (WHPS) and Washington/Alaska Physicians Health Programs (WPHP).
Karen has been in recovery since 2012 and understands the complex journey for individuals who experience substance use disorders, sex and love addiction, internet/technology addictions, trauma, and mood and anxiety disorders. She is dedicated to supporting individuals seeking recovery from addictions, betrayal trauma, and couples who are wishing to recover from sex addiction and betrayal trauma together.
Karen also works with individuals & couples who are seeking more general support related to family dynamics, life transitions, work, and other issues that may be creating stress and distress. Whether you are new to recovery, questioning if you might have problematic use of substances, behaviors, or technology, or whether you have been in recovery for awhile and are seeking additional support, Karen will provide a safe space for you to explore these life experiences and related emotions, empowering you towards healthier choices, actions, and quality of relationships.
Throughout over 36 years in the behavioral health field, Karen has worked in inpatient psychiatric settings, emergency rooms, residential treatment, community mental health, marketing, and private practice. She has received extensive training by leaders in the field including Patrick Carnes, Phd, Stephanie Carnes, Phd, Robert Weiss, Phd, LCSW, CSAT, Carol Sheets, LCSW, CSAT, CCPS-S, CPC-S and Association of Sex Addicts Trauma Specialists (APSATS).
